Oak Floor - Perfect Home Accents for an Oak Floor

An oak floor can last in a home for generations, making it an ideal choice for any renovation or new construction project you may have. Simply installing the oak is only half the battle though. You actually have to come up with design accents to bring that flooring to life. The right pieces can do wonders to enhance the look of your flooring no matter what kind of theme you may be aiming for in the space. Listed below are some design tips that may guide your room decorations in the future.

Dark furniture always makes a light oak floor pop. Stay away from yellows and light browns that match the colouring of the floor and try to invest in deeper colours. Sometimes other woods will work in the space, and other times they will detract from the oak. It all depends on how dark the accent wood is and how much of it you use in the space. Think about having brown leather seating in the room or cherry stained oak pieces. Those should bring out the grain and colouring in the wood nicely if you use them in the right supply.

Try painting the walls a light, neutral colour to keep the space feelings as bright as possible. You can get away with dark paint if you have a large room, but otherwise it will make the space feel dark and depressing. A soft off white should enhance the oak floor nicely, especially if you have decorative white moulding along the bottom. Then the floors will seem dramatic but inviting. Pull the colour of the floors into the accent fabrics you use in the room, like the throw pillows or the window treatments. Do this in moderation so you do not overwhelm the space with one colour.

You can consider using an area rug in the middle of the room, but try not to make it too large. A good rug can add emphasise the beauty in an oak floor, but a massive one can cover it up altogether. You could test different sizes and colours out until you find something that works for you. Add some great lighting to the space to make it feel as warm and inviting as possible. Then all you have to do is sit back and admire your work. Your floors should be able to last through many decoration doovers in the future.
