Low -E Glasses

Solarban® Solar Control Low-E Glass
PPG Solarban® 60 coated glass was engineered to control solar heat gain, which is essential to minimising cooling costs. In a standard 24mm insulating glass unit (6mm/12mm Air/6mm), Solarban 60 Glass has the following features:

  • Exterior appearance similar to clear, uncoated glass.
  • Visible light transmittance of 70%.
  • Blocks more than 60% of the total solar energy.
  • Excellent insulation value (U-Value = 1.64)
  • Provides maximum glazing design flexibility as the coating can be glazed in the (2) or the (3) surface orientation

Sungate® Low-E Glass
Sungate® 500 coated Low-E insulating glass units transmit high levels of passive solar energy, improve thermal performance, and reduce indirect solar heat gain.
In a standard 24mm insulating glass unit, Sungate® 500 Glass has the following features:

  • The colour neutrality of clear uncoated glass.
  • Visible light transmittance of 74%.
  • Excellent insulation value (U-Value = 1.99)

The ‘Oceans of Colour’ palette is reserved for the highest performing spectrally selective (see below) tinted glass products. They provide buildings with a desirable low solar heat gain coefficient and high visible light transmittance — in a versatile range of creative colours.

A strikingly beautiful aqua-green colour, Caribia™ Glass will blend naturally with surrounding building materials to create remarkably attractive commercial structures. Caribia Glass boasts qualities similar to the best performing spectrally selective glass products with visible light transmission of 67% and solar heat gain coefficient of 0.50.

When incorporated in a 24mm I.G. unit the performance is even more impressive with visible light transmission of 60% and solar heat gain coefficient of 0.39.

(formerly Azurlite®)

Azuria™ Glass is an ideal blend of solar control and visible light transmittance in a stunning aqua-blue appearance. The solar heat gain coefficient of Azuria Glass in a 24mm I.G. unit is an extraordinarily low, 0.39. Yet, visible light transmittance is a high 61%.

Even when used monolithically Azuria Glass provides an excellent solar heat gain coefficient of 0.50 with visible light transmittance a fantastic 67%.

(formerly Solargreen®)
Atlantica™ Glass is an emerald-green glass that combines desirable high visible light transmittance (67%) with low solar heat gain coefficient (0.51). When used as the outer light of a 24mm I.G. unit, Atlantica glass provides 60% visible light transmittance and a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.40.

Its sparkling green colour is especially striking against light coloured facades.

(formerly Solex®)
Solexia™ Glass is a light green tinted glass that has provided aesthetic and performance solutions for builders and architects world-wide for decades. Its light green colour subdues interior brightness while still providing the highest visible light transmittance (77%) of any tinted glass available. This is combined with a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.60.

Understanding Spectrally Selective Glass
Spectrally selective glass is defined as glass with a Light to Solar Gain ratio (LSG) of 1.25 or better. LSG is equal to the Visible Light Transmittance (VLT).divided by Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC).

Spectrally selective glass takes advantage of natural daylight while lowering solar heat loads. As a result, architects and designers can minimise reliance on artificial cooling and lighting in a commercial building, resulting in reduced building operating costs.

PPG Glass Technology provides a range of products, including Solarban 60 and the Oceans Of Colour range of tinted products, that meet or exceed this requirement. In some cases lead their categories in energy efficiency with LSG ratings as high as 1.86.

Earth Tone Series
In addition to the “Oceans of Colour,” PPG offers a powerful aesthetic statement with an expansive earth tone palette featuring our Performance Gray and Tinted Glass products.

PPG PERFORMANCE GRAY
Optigray® 23 Glass
Optigray® 23 Glass is a medium gray-tinted glass with a warm undertone and improved solar control properties. It maintains a light transmittance of 21% in a 24mm I.G. unit and blocks 67% of the total solar energy. The solar heat gain coefficient in a one-inch I.G. unit is one of the lowest of any architectural tinted glass product: 0.29.

Graylite® Glass
A rich, dark gray, Graylite Glass combines heat load reduction and solar control with a distinctive colour contrast. Its solar heat gain coefficient is 0.34 for a 24mm I.G. unit while visible light transmittance is 12%, making it ideal for glare control and privacy glazing.

TINTED GLASS

Solargray® Glass
Solargray Glass combines a cool light-gray appearance with the ability to control solar heat gain and glare.

Solarbronze® Glass
Solarbronze Glass, in a warm bronze appearance, reduces solar heat gain and glare while providing a visible light transmittance of 47% in a one-inch insulating unit.

SOLARCOOL® REFLECTIVE GLASS

Solarcool® Glass
Since their introduction in 1972, Solarcool® reflective coated glasses have enhanced the appearance of all building types while providing comfortable interiors.

Solarcool Caribia™ Glass
Solarcool Caribia™ Glass, an exciting new spectrally selective tinted glass, creates a softly reflective, warm green appearance when glazed with the reflective coating facing indoors (i.e. Surface #2). When glazed with the reflective coating on the outboard surface (i.e. Surface #1), higher visible light reflectivity mutes the aqua-green colour to create a more metallic appearance that adapts to changing light conditions and surrounding landscapes.

Solarcool Solexia™ Glass (formerly Solarcool Solex®)
With the soft reflectivity of Solarcool coated glass and light-green colour of Solexia™ tinted glass, Solarcool Solexia Glass can create standout aesthetics for any commercial project.

Solarcool Azuria™ Glass (formerly Solarcool Azurlite®)
Solarcool Azuria™ Glass takes the best properties of two superb PPG glass products and combines them into one. With the coating on the #2 surface, the softly reflective aqua-blue colour of the glass is visually stunning. Applied to the #1 surface, Solarcool Azuria Glass becomes more reflective.

Solarcool Bronze Glass
Solarcool Bronze Glass provides a silver-bronze aesthetic and reduced solar heat gain when glazed with the reflective coating on the outboard (#1).

Solarcool Gray Glass
Solarcool Gray Glass provides a silvery aesthetic when glazed with the reflective coating on the outboard (#1) surface and a dark gray aesthetic when glazed with the reflective coating on the inboard (#2).

Solarcool Graylite® Glass
Solarcool Graylite® Glass provides a rich silver aesthetic when glazed with the reflective coating on the outboard (#1) surface and a dramatic, almost-black aesthetic when glazed with the reflective coating on the inboard (#2).

PPG Starphire® Ultra-Clear Glass
Starphire® Glass is an ultra-clear glass designed for a wide variety of commercial applications. Starphire Glass avoids the greening inherent in ordinary clear glass. Maintaining its remarkable clarity in any thickness, it’s the ideal solution for emphasising atriums, entranceways, entire building facades or for use in laminated applications. In retail storefronts and displays, it highlights the displayed products’ true colours.

Splash backs are another excellent use for Starphire Glass. The high fidelity colour transmission of Starphire Glass makes it possible to incorporate true whites, pastels and other light colours. Starphire Glass is clearly the product to choose when looks are everything. Visit www.ppgstarphire.com
