The production of veneer from burls is the most challenging of all types of veneer manufacture. Burl Veneer is usually produced using a rotary peeler. Due to the random and varied shape of burls, the veneer produced is random and varied. Leaf size can vary from 40cm x 40cm up to200cm x 120cm depending on the species. As a result when burl veneer is converted into finished panels, the veneer must be book matched along as well as across the panel producing a repeating pattern. The term cluster applies to a burl which exhibits patches of burl interspersed with muscle wood creating a broader scaled pattern. Often clusters produce larger dimension veneer with greater amounts of sequence matching. We often recommend clusters for wall paneling applications. |
